Economy tuning & MPG remapping in Wigan
Better miles per gallon, smoother torque and lower running costs. Every file is written in-house at Panache Tuning for drivers who rack up the miles, whether you’re a courier, a fleet operator, a van driver or a high-mileage commuter.
Check your vehicle’s gains
Pick your make, model and engine to see the projected figures for your exact car or van. The widget shows power and torque, and MPG improvement is typically 8โ15% on top of those depending on how you drive. Give us a call if you want specifics for your usage.
Economy tuning is for you if...
You drive serious miles
Couriers, reps, sales drivers and long-distance commuters who rack up 20,000+ miles a year through a diesel. A 10% MPG improvement on a car doing 25,000 miles at ยฃ1.45/litre diesel is roughly ยฃ450 saved per year, which means the remap typically pays for itself inside 6 months.
You run a van or fleet
Tradespeople, delivery operators and field-service fleets. Van remaps don't just save fuel, they smooth out torque delivery under load, reduce how often the DPF needs to regen, and are much easier on clutches and drivetrains in stop-start work. Ask us about fleet pricing for three or more vehicles.
You want torque, not top-end power
Economy tuning isn't "slow tuning" by any stretch. The map adds low-rev torque so you spend less time at high revs getting up to speed, which is where the fuel savings actually come from. You'll notice the car or van pulls harder from 1,500 rpm and feels more responsive in normal driving.
Economy tune vs performance tune โ what's different?
Both tunes re-write the same maps in the ECU. The difference is where the gains go and what the file is optimised for.
| Economy tune | Performance tune | |
|---|---|---|
| Priority | MPG + drivability | Power + response |
| Power gain | Small (+5โ10%) | Large (+25โ40%) |
| Torque gain | Moderate, low-rev focus | Large, across the range |
| MPG change | +8โ15% | Usually neutral (if driven the same) |
| Typical buyer | High-mileage drivers, vans, fleets | Enthusiasts, drivers who want it faster |
| Cost | ยฃ220โยฃ340 | ยฃ220โยฃ340 |
Not sure which one you want? Give us a call on 07597 921326 and we'll talk it through based on your car or van and how you actually use it. If outright power matters more than MPG savings, head over to performance tuning instead.
How an economy tune with us works
Pre-check
We start with a diagnostic scan. A sticking EGR, worn injectors, a blocked DPF or knackered sensors all mean that economy tuning would just mask an underlying problem. If there's something to fix first, we'll tell you before we quote on the tune.
Baseline read
We pull your original ECU file and keep a permanent backup of it. Whether you're selling the car or van, going back into warranty, or just want stock back, we'll re-flash the original in minutes, free of charge for as long as you own the vehicle.
File written here
Your map is built by hand at Panache Tuning using WinOLS. We re-profile the fuelling, boost and torque curves for part-throttle efficiency and low-rev pull, ensuring the file is suitable for your driving rather than being a generic off-the-shelf template.
Flash + road test
We flash the new file to the ECU via Alientech or Autotuner, then road-test the car or van immediately to check fuelling, drivability and DPF regen behaviour are all as intended before you leave.
Handover
Before you head off we'll give you a full explanation of what changed. The best MPG gains show up after 500โ1,000 miles of normal driving, once the ECU's adaptive values have settled in. Don't judge it on the first tank, judge it on the fourth.
Typical time in the workshop is 1.5โ2 hours ยท Mobile service is available for some vans and vehicles, give us a call to check whether yours qualifies.
Why it's worth doing properly
Files written here, not emailed off
No generic "economy file" downloaded from a third-party server. Every map is written in-house at Panache Tuning using WinOLS, the industry-standard tuning software, customised for your exact vehicle and the way you actually drive.
Professional-grade tools
WinOLS, Alientech, Autotuner and EVC are four of the most respected names in professional ECU tuning, and they're what we work with on every job. The same tools the generic garages and bedroom tuners don't have access to.
Fully reversible, forever
Your original file stays on our system permanently. We'll re-flash to stock any time you need for services, MOTs, trade-ins or warranty claims, free of charge for as long as you own the car or van.
Running more than one vehicle?
If you've got three or more vans or commercial vehicles, get in touch for a quote that suits the size of your operation. We can usually work around your schedule to keep vehicles on the road, including coming to your yard for the bigger runs so you don't lose drivers to downtime.
Typical multi-vehicle customers:
- Trades with a small fleet (plumbing, electrical, maintenance)
- Local delivery operators and couriers
- Private hire and minicab operators
- Horsebox and trailer operators
Reviews from economy & van customers
"Excellent service, quick, efficient and a real difference to the vehicle. The vehicle runs infinitely better โ improved the MPG by around 10โ15% overall and the throttle response is considerably better. Now drives like a new vehicle."
"Had my Mercedes V250d and my Renault Trafic remapped today. I've since towed a twin-axle box trailer with it this afternoon and now can hardly feel it on the back โ it's made such a difference. Excellent service and an excellent job done."
"Been waiting a while to leave this review as wanted to see what the map was like over a few months. There's a noticeable improvement in performance and the way it drives in general. Wanting our second car done now."
Questions we get asked
How much MPG will I actually gain?
Realistically 8โ15% on mixed driving. Motorway-heavy drivers tend to see the higher end of that range, while city-only drivers see the lower end because there's less efficiency headroom to unlock in stop-start use. At Panache Tuning we'll give you a realistic expectation for your specific car or van and driving pattern before you commit to anything.
How quickly will I see the savings?
Don't judge it on the first tank. Modern ECUs use adaptive values that take a few hundred miles to re-learn against the new map. The best figures typically show from around the 500โ1,000 mile mark. If you track your MPG on a fuel app, compare month 2 to month 0, not day 1 to day 7.
Will it reduce my power?
No it won't. An economy tune still increases torque, just biased towards low-to-mid revs rather than the top end of the rev range. Most customers say their car or van feels more responsive in normal driving after an economy tune, not less.
Does it affect my manufacturer warranty?
If your car or van is still in warranty then yes, a remap is a modification and can affect it. For older vehicles out of warranty, which is most of what we work on, it's not an issue. We'll always be upfront about this when you book in.
Do I need to tell my insurance?
Yes you do. A remap is a modification and needs declaring to your insurer. Most mainstream insurers are fine with a remap, some charge a small uplift. Specialist modified-car insurers like Adrian Flux, Sky, Greenlight and A-Plan handle remaps routinely. If your current insurer won't play, give us a call and we'll point you at a broker who will.
Do you do fleets / multiple vehicles?
Yes we do. Three or more vehicles gets a quote that suits the size of your fleet, and we can come to your yard for the bigger runs. Give us a call on 07597 921326 to discuss.
Is it reversible?
Always. Your original file stays on our system permanently. We can revert to stock in minutes, free of charge, for as long as you own the vehicle.
