ECU remapping & performance tuning in Wigan
Every file is written by us, in our workshop, never downloaded from a server or emailed off to a third party. Typical results are +25–40% power and +30–50% torque, depending on your car or van and what we have to work with.

What is ECU remapping?
Your engine ECU is the computer that controls everything from how much fuel to use, when to deliver boost and control how much torque to deliver at any point in time so that the engine is operating at peak performance.
Manufacturers write the ECU's programmes from a one size fits all approach by only writing 1 software version for multiple countries, a remap adapts this software to a more customised version suitable for the individual customer's wants and needs.
"Done properly" is the important bit! At Panache Tuning every file is written in house for your car or van, ensuring every vehicle leaves with improved drive quality without risking the long term health of your engine.
What can you expect?
Every car or van is different, so check yours using the gains widget above. These figures are the typical ranges we see on a Stage 1 remap, with stock hardware and software changes only.
Diesel
Stronger pull from low revs, easier overtakes when you need them, and often a slight MPG improvement on steady motorway runs because the engine is running more efficiently at part throttle.
Petrol Turbo
Sharper throttle response, stronger punch through the mid-range, and the proper turbo feel that the factory map was holding back for emissions and worst-case-market reasons.
Naturally Aspirated
Smaller numbers compared to turbocharged engines but the same principle applies, with better throttle response and smoother power delivery. Naturally aspirated engines are limited more by physics than software, so the gains are modest but still worthwhile.
Gains vary by vehicle, mileage, condition and the fuel you use. The checker above gives projected figures for your specific car or van, and we confirm the real-world feel on a road test before you leave the workshop.
How a remap with us works
Pre-check
We start with a diagnostic tool every time. Fault codes, sensor health and service history all get checked, because if there's an underlying issue with your car or van, a remap won't fix it and we'll always tell you that upfront.
Baseline read
We pull your original ECU file and keep a permanent backup of it. If you ever want to revert to stock, whether you're selling the vehicle or going back into warranty, we'll re-flash the original file free of charge for as long as you own the car or van.
File written here
We write your map in-house at Panache Tuning using WinOLS. Fuel, boost, timing and torque maps are all adjusted for your exact hardware and the way you actually drive, ensuring the file is suitable for your individual needs rather than a generic template.
Flash + road test
We flash the new file via Alientech or Autotuner, then road-test the car to check fuelling, boost, throttle response and that there are no fault codes before you head off home.
Handover
Before you leave we'll talk you through exactly what changed, the projected gain figures for your file, and what to expect from the car or van in real-world driving.
Typical time in the workshop is 1.5–3 hours · Mobile service is available for some vehicles, give us a call to check whether yours qualifies.
Why it's worth doing properly
Files written here, not emailed off
Most "remap" services in the UK send your ECU file off to a third-party "master tuner" you've never met, who writes it from a template and emails it back the same day. At Panache Tuning we don't work that way — every file is written here in our own workshop, by the same person who'll hand the keys back to you when the job is done.
Professional-grade tools only
WinOLS for file editing, Alientech and Autotuner for flashing, and EVC for real-time tuning on vehicles that support it. These are four of the most respected names in the professional tuning industry, and they're what we work with on every job.
Lifetime warranty on the tune
The file itself is covered for as long as you own the car or van. If anything happens that affects the tune, whether that's an ECU replacement, a major service, or an emissions fault, we'll re-flash or adjust the file free of charge. Any problem that traces back to the tune is on us.
Stage 1 vs Stage 2
Stage 1 — Software only
This is what most of our customers go for. The existing hardware stays exactly as it is, and we simply rewrite the ECU map to make the most of what's already there. No visible changes, no MOT problems, no install work required, and the vast majority of remaps we do at Panache Tuning are Stage 1.
Stage 2 — Software + hardware
For customers who've already fitted hardware upgrades like a sports exhaust, intercooler, high-flow filter or downpipe, or who are planning to add them. We write the map around the new hardware to release the gains the upgrades alone can't give you, and we're always happy to advise on the right order to do the work in if you're not sure where to start.
Reviews from performance customers
"Arrived early for an 'at home' Stage 1 on my BMW M240i. Very friendly, explained the process and the projected performance increase. Remap was complete in about 30–45 minutes and the results left us both stunned. For anyone considering having their car remapped, this is 100% the company to use."
"Had my Mercedes V250d and my Renault Trafic remapped today. I've since towed a twin-axle box trailer with it this afternoon and now can hardly feel it on the back — it's made such a difference. My Mercedes is also so much more responsive. Excellent service and an excellent job done."
"Been waiting a while to leave this review as wanted to see what the map was like over a few months. There's a noticeable improvement in performance and also the way it drives in general. Wanting our second car done now."
"Did my BMW X5 today and the car runs like a dream — no flat spot on the acceleration any more. Very happy with the service, top job. Will defo use again."
Questions we get asked
Will a remap damage my engine?
Not when it's done properly. We work inside the engine's safe tolerances, which are the same tolerances the manufacturer built into the hardware originally but then dialled back for emissions, fuel-flexibility and worst-case-market reasons. A badly-written file from a generic tuner can cause problems for the long term health of your engine, and that's exactly why at Panache Tuning we write every file ourselves rather than downloading someone else's work.
Will it affect my manufacturer warranty?
If your car or van is still under manufacturer warranty then yes, a remap can affect it. Dealers can usually spot a remap during a service, and most warranty terms cover modifications. For older vehicles out of warranty, which is the majority of what we work on, there's no issue at all. We'll always be upfront about this when you book in, so if you're still in warranty think it through carefully or wait until the warranty ends.
Do I need to tell my insurance?
Yes, a remap is a modification and you need to declare it to your insurer. Most mainstream insurers are fine with a remap, some charge a small uplift, and a few won't cover it at all. Specialist modified-car insurers like Adrian Flux, Sky, Greenlight and A-Plan handle remaps routinely and are often cheaper for a tuned car than the mainstream lot are for a stock one. If your current insurer won't play, give us a call and we'll point you at a broker who will.
Will it wreck my MPG?
The opposite, usually, assuming you drive the car or van the same way as before. A remapped diesel on a steady motorway cruise often returns slightly better MPG because the engine is running more efficiently at part throttle. Drive it hard and enjoy the extra power and MPG will drop, but that's your right foot rather than the tune. If economy is your main goal then our economy tune is what you want instead.
Is it reversible?
Yes, always. We keep a permanent backup of your original file from day one. Whether you're selling the car or van, going back into warranty, or just want to return to stock, we can re-flash the original file in minutes, usually with no charge for existing customers.
How much does it cost?
Stage 1 is typically £220–£340 depending on the vehicle. Smaller cars and common platforms sit at the lower end of that range, with bigger luxury and performance cars and vans at the higher end. The gains checker above shows the projected figures for your car or van, and you can give us a call on 07597 921326 for a firm quote on price. Finance is available through Klarna, PayPal Pay in 4 and Payment Assist if you'd rather spread the cost across a few payments.
What if my car has a warning light already?
Fix that first. A remap isn't a diagnostic tool and won't clear a genuine fault, and at Panache Tuning we won't map a car or van with live faults because we can't trust the sensor readings the map relies on. If you've got a warning light on the dashboard, book in for diagnostics first and we'll find what's actually causing it.
